Overshine Wine Harvest Party

Keep shining! That's the motto of Overshine Winery in Healdsburg, CA. The harvest party this year was another beautiful day in Healdsburg and the vibe could not have been better.

I do a lot of events at Overshine, and it's always a good time. The vintage credenza in the tasting room that houses the 70s McIntosh stereo (coupled with 1978 Klipsch Cornwall speakers) easily converts to a DJ booth, making for some fun Saturday afternoons spinning records. I always invite the guests and members to pull some songs from the in-house listening library (that includes about 400 of my funk and soul records) for me to throw in the mix.

It's hard to pick an event to highlight but this year's harvest party was a standout. They kept it pretty simple this time, just a beautiful day with a local food truck (Hopmonk), great wine, and some classic music spun by yours truly.

That said, Overshine events always have a little something special lined up, so this time we were joined by Mic Flo, a very talented bay area rapper who blessed us with an amazing live set from his Sip-Hop project (@dopewinesdopevibes on IG). Sip-Hop is his unique approach combining his love for Italian wine varietals and his love for Hip-Hop. With song titles like Beats Wines & Life, Pour it Up, and Sip Slow, you get the idea!

My sets at Overshine can often span from funk to soul to classic hip-hop/R&B to reggae, latin, and more (the winery is named after a song by the 90s rap group Onyx). I was billed as playing funk and soul for this one, so I mostly played out of my 45 boxes of 70s heat. I did sneak in some 90s soul from Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu which of course fit right in.

I'm blessed to be a part of the family at Overshine. If you are ever in the Healdsburg area, don't miss the opportunity to swing by the tasting room to enjoy the epic view, sip some amazing wine, listen to some classic records, and just soak up the soul overall.

My contributions to this one:

Djing: Funk and soul, mostly out of the 45 crates.

Sound: 2 Bose L1M2 Column Array speakers with B2 bass speakers, a Bassboss BB15 subwoofer, and a Bose S1 for the main system. I sent the signal wirelessly to the vintage system inside (I was set up outside).

With Mic Flo: I DJed for his set. It was fun to dust off the hip-hop DJ skills and give the Overshine folks a glimpse into a side of my Djing that they hadn't seen before. I also got some one-off records of his beats pressed up so that I could play his set (and cut up his scratch samples) on vinyl. I put my graphic art experience to work and flipped the wine bottle label art for the record labels, which was full circle, as the wine labels are styled to look like record labels in the first place.
